The two remaining Republican immigration bills were rejected in a Democratic Senate committee Monday. House Bill 1140 would have withheld state funding from cities and towns that refuse to participate in a federal initiative to identify illegal immigrants through the use of fingerprints when they are arrested. House Bill 1252 would have allowed the secretary of state to block voters whose citizenship is in doubt.
