An electric candle warmer started a fire that caused $50,000 worth of damage to a home in Northglenn this morning, North Metro Fire Rescue said.

The fire started in the basement bedroom of a home in the 11800 block of High Street at about 10 a.m.

One residents has minor burns. One dog and two cats died from smoke inhalation, according to the fire department.

The heater is designed to melt scented candles. The device apparently overheated and ignited nearby material, according to a press release from North Metro Fire Rescue.
