SILVERTHORNE, Colo.—A security task force of Summit County and Denver Water leaders has been meeting about providing permanent security on the road at Dillon Reservoir.
Authorities at Denver Water said Tuesday the Dillon Dam Security Task Force intends to continue improving the security at the reservoir, the water agency’s largest reservoir. They said last week plans for guard shacks with reinforced drop-down gates are already in the works.
Officials say they’ll have a final agreement on permanent security measures by the end of April.
Denver Water began closing the road nightly in July 2008 because of an undisclosed security threat. The road was initially closed all the time but public outcry lead to overnight closures.
The dam in Summit County holds billions of gallons of water above Silverthorne and Interstate 70.
