SEATTLE — The Tigers placed catcher Victor Martinez on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday after he aggravated a groin injury during Monday’s 8-3 victory at Seattle.

The Tigers purchased the contract of catcher Omir Santos from Triple-A Toledo.

Franklin out as closer

ST. LOUIS — The Cardinals bumped Ryan Franklin out of the closer’s role after four blown saves and likely will turn to Mitchell Boggs as his replacement.

Also, second baseman Skip Schumaker (triceps) and reserve outfielder Allen Craig (groin) were placed on the 15-day DL.
