After their press conference with the media today, Broncos’ new front-office boss John Elway and general manager Brian Xanders held a conference call with more 7,000 season-ticket holders.
The 23 fans who got in on the call — the first of its kind by the Broncos — not only asked many of the same questions Elway and Xanders fielded from the media, but also a few the media didn’t think of. Such as:
“With my background, I’m definitely going to be involved,” Elway said. “But we’re very fortunate to have Adam Gase, who’s our quarterbacks coach now. But also I plan on helping out where I can. I don’t want to be intrusive, but I want to be a part of it and help out at that position.”
“Elvis passed his offseason physical; he’s 100 percent healthy,” Elway said.
“One of the best things you can do for a home crowd is play great defense,” Elway said. “We haven’t performed on that side of the ball as well as we’ve like to. I think if we can play great defense at home, keep the crowd in it … we have a chance to return the mystique we had at Mile High.”
Xanders began by saying there is an explosive element to Fox’s passing game.
“There will be a running game, that’s part of the heritage of the Denver Broncos,” Xanders said. “The Broncos have been No. 1 in the run since 1995.”
Season-ticket holders will also be invited into a conference call with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell at a later date.
