There’s a good chance two players will not forget the instant they became the Broncos’ second-round draft picks.
Those picks will be announced next Friday from New York’s Radio City Music Hall stage by Shannon Sharpe.
A former Broncos tight end, Sharpe will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August. Perhaps the second- round picks Sharpe announces will one day follow him to Canton, Ohio.
They will be off to a better start. Sharpe wasn’t selected until the seventh round of the 1990 draft.
“I might have a surprise for everybody,” Sharpe said. “I’m thinking of getting up there and saying, ‘The Denver Broncos, with their No. 46 pick in the second round, select: John Elway, quarterback.’
“Seriously, I hope whoever they select in that round that those players step in and play right away.”
The NFL will have former players announce each team’s picks in the second or third rounds. There’s a chance the Broncos may put Sharpe on hold, as the Broncos figure to have offers to trade back from their first second-round pick, No. 36 overall, in exchange for an extra pick in the third or fourth rounds.
