DENVER—A former Marine suspected of raping a 22-year-old woman at Denver International Airport has been advised of a sexual assault charge filed against him.
Twenty-six-year-old Noel Bertrand of Portland appeared in court Thursday in Denver. He was assigned a public defender during the hearing but the lawyer didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment.
Bertrand was accused of assaulting a woman just after midnight on April 12 after she missed a flight. They say the woman met a man at an airport restaurant and was attacked at an empty gate.
Authorities say airline employees on the tarmac saw the incident through a window and intervened.
Bertrand served in the Marines from 2003 to 2009. He served as a security guard and was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
