Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia on Thursday won unanimous support from the Senate Education Committee, getting a step closer to taking on a second job as head of the state Department of Higher Education.
The committee voted 8-0 to confirm Garcia, who previously served as president of Colorado State University-Pueblo.
Gov. John Hickenlooper appeared at the hearing to lend his support to the lieutenant governor. Garcia has said he has a close working relationship with Hickenlooper. Garcia must next win confirmation from the full Senate.
