A teenager faces arson charges in connection with three recent Douglas County fires.
The 15-year-old suspect is accused of starting three wildland fires in the Pinery subdivision, according to fire investigators.
The suspect was not named because of his age.
The fires burned in open space and threatened nearby homes, according to the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority.
Fire investigators determined that the fires were intentionally set and appeared to be related, according to a media release from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Fire investigators and the sheriff’s office set up surveillance of an area based on information from witnesses; the suspect was identified after several days, the release said.
Investigators do not believe this case is related to the Burning Tree fire, which scorched 1,600 acres in Douglas County in March.
Parker and Lone Tree police are members of the sheriff’s office unit that took part in the investigation.
