The Department of Veterans Affairs announced Thursday it has awarded the first major contract for construction of the new VA Medical Center in Aurora — $22.5 million to Kiewit-Turner.
The new hospital will replace the Denver Medical Center for the Eastern Colorado Health Care System and will be constructed at the Fitzsimons campus.
The new 184-bed medical center will include a 30-bed Spinal Cord Injury/Disease Center, a 30-bed community living center, a research building, a central utility plant and parking structures.
The Kiewit-Turner contract includes renovation of the former UPI office building, which will be known as the Clinic Building South.
