Vail Resorts Inc. says almost 100,000 customers activated accounts this season for its new EpicMix online and mobile application, which makes use of technology embedded on lift tickets and passes to track skiers’ and snowboarders’ vertical feet.

The Broomfield, Colo.-based ski company says that represents an adoption rate of 15 percent.

About 45 percent of EpicMix accounts were held by customers who opted to have EpicMix share their ski day statistics on Twitter and Facebook. The company says EpicMix generated 275,000 social posts on both sites.

In addition, almost 40,000 customers downloaded EpicMix to mobile phones.

EpicMix tracks visits to Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone resorts in Colorado and Heavenly in California. EpicMix should be operational next season at Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort, which Vail Resorts acquired last fall.
