The FBI released three additional photographs Friday of the man they now call a “possible suspect” in the planting of two bombs in the Southwest Plaza mall in Jefferson County.

The man, also caught on the mall’s video surveillance, is wanted for questioning in the incident, according to a news release from the FBI Denver Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Previously, authorities called the man a “person of interest,” but the investigation — a joint effort between the FBI, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives — established the man as a possible suspect Friday.

The mall was evacuated shortly before noon Wednesday after a small fire was discovered in a service hallway. Investigators found a pipe bomb and a device rigged to two small propane tanks. Neither of the devices ignited.

The latest photos were provided by RTD transit police. They show the same man seen in the mall surveillance video as he rode an RTD bus the evening before the devices were discovered. The bus left the mall at 8:30 p.m. and traveled north on Wadsworth Boulevard.

Both sets of photos show a white man with gray hair and a mustache. He is wearing a dark cap and a horizontally striped gray and white shirt, a dark jacket with silver buttons, jeans and dark shoes.

Authorities hope the photos will help identify the man. Anyone with information about the man or who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area is asked to call the Jeffco Tip Line at 303-271-5615.
