The Arapahoe Pop/Rock Ensemble of Arapahoe Community College will hold a fundraiser for Karina Vargas, the 16-year-old girl who was shot in December outside Aurora Central High School.

The event is planned for 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at The Toad Tavern, 5302 South Federal Circle in Littleton.

A donation of $10 or more at the door is suggested. Proceeds will go to help Karina and her family.

The Arapahoe Pop/Rock Ensemble began holding fundraisers for worthy causes last spring. Its first concert raised $4,000 for Brad Bailey, an who was unemployed and diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma cancer.

The Toad Tavern is hosting the event for free.

Karina was paralyzed by a bullet allegedly fired by Luis Guzman-Rincon as she chatted with friends outside the school. Guzman-Rincon, who is in the country illegally, is described by police as being involved in a gang. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in May.
