A woman thought to be the last person seen with shooting suspect Melvin “Catfish” Nelson has been found, questioned and cleared as a person of interest, Lakewood police said today.
Authorities said they were looking for 28-year-old Crystal Santisteven Monday, but said today that she is “no longer a person of interest.”
Nelson, 60, is wanted on suspicion he shot a 72-year-old Lakewood woman in the face three times during a robbery in her home Saturday afternoon.
The woman survived the shooting, and police have been looking for Nelson since.
Nelson has an decades-long criminal record, including drug, robbery and assault charges. He was last known to be driving a stolen 2000 Ford Explorer with Colorado license plate 501PYD, police said.
