Denver’s new manager of safety has suspended two officers without pay — one of whom he found used inappropriate force and the other for driving under the influence.
Safety Manager Charles Garcia suspended Sgt. Kenneth Johnson for 30 days. Johnson was accused of jumping on and punching a man who jaywalked. Garcia suspended Detective Michael Lemmons for 90 days for driving under the influence and fined him two days’ pay for prohibited use of a weapon.
Lemmons was involved in an off- duty, one-car accident, according to police spokesman Matthew Murray.
The disciplinary orders, released Tuesday, are dated April 20 in Johnson’s case and April 26 in the case of Lemmons.
Police union chief Nick Rogers couldn’t be reached for comment.
Garcia took office in March and has terminated four officers.
