A football marathon is nearly over and the whirlwind of the first John Elway-supervised Broncos draft will conclude after picks are made over the next three days.
Many words have been spoken, trips have been made and the video has rolled. And, while the Broncos’ lips are sealed for the most part, after making the rounds the last few months, here are some things to expect:
• The Panthers could throw the biggest curveball of the three-day affair if they don’t take Cam Newton with the No. 1 pick. Most in the NFL expect the Panthers to choose Newton, but if they don’t, and can’t trade out of the spot, keep an eye out for A.J. Green’s name to be called.
• The most likely teams to trade with the Broncos would be Cincinnati at No. 4, and Houston at No. 11. The Bengals have an almost desperate need for a quarterback, and if they believe the Bills are going to take one at No. 3, they will be in the Broncos’ ear for a chance at Blaine Gabbert.
The Texans could use Von Miller, but so could the Broncos. If the Broncos move down a couple spots, the Texans could be in play for the Broncos to make a second move.
• In his first draft, Elway likely will play it safe with low-risk picks as far as off-the-field troubles or injuries are concerned.
