The Catholic Archdiocese of Denver is holding several events today commemorating the beatification of Pope John Paul II, an intermediate step toward sainthood.
Archbishop Charles Chaput will mark the beatification at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception with Masses at 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and will lead a 5:30 p.m. prayer service at the John Paul II statue at the basilica’s southwest corner.
Bishop James Conley will host a beatification party for young adults 6:30-10 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1555 Grant St.
The Capuchin Poor Clare nuns will remember Pope John Paul II with a 12:30 p.m. lunch, $5, in the park across from St. Patrick’s Oratory, 3301 Pecos St. Prayerful observances follow from 2 to 4 p.m.
