A passport, a Kindle, a sim card and $180 are all 22-year-old Brendan Davis took with him when he vanished from his Boston apartment last week, leaving his family in Centennial desperately trying to find him.

Davis, who graduated from Heritage High School in Littleton in 2007, was two weeks away from his bachelor’s degree in computer science at University of Massachusetts Boston.

“It’s very uncharacteristic of him to just leave without making plans. He’s a very organized individual,” mother Caralyn Davis said. “We just need to know he’s safe.”

Before disappearing Wednesday, Davis sent two cryptic letters: One to his ex-girlfriend asking her to take care of his cats and one to a close friend giving him a set of keys and permission to use Davis’ apartment.

Davis has struggled with bouts of depression since breaking up with his girlfriend of three-and-a-half years in November, his mother said.

“Whenever he was upset or thinking too much about things, he would reach out to me. We would talk things through,” she said.

Brendan Davis had been reading transcendentalist author Henry David Thoreau’s biography of a simple life on nearby Walden Pond, his mother said. The family’s search of the area in Concord, Mass. turned up no trace of Davis.

There’s been no activity on his credit card. Boston authorities don’t suspect foul play, Caralyn Davis said.

Davis is 6-foot-3-inches tall, about 185 pounds with brown hair and eyes.

Anyone with information regarding Davis’ whereabouts can call Boston authorities at 1-800-494-TIPS.
