PASADENA, Calif. — A federal appeals court in California heard arguments Monday on a lawsuit challenging the U.S. citizenship of President Barack Obama, despite the release of his detailed birth certificate last week.

Attorneys for the “birther” movement asked a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to remand the suit — dismissed two years ago — back to U.S. District Court.
