WASHINGTON — A relaxed, smiling Prince Charles offered words of praise and encouragement to operators of an urban farm in the nation’s capital.
The Prince of Wales spent about 35 minutes Tuesday afternoon touring Common Good City Farm on Capitol Hill. He shook hands and made small talk with farm staffers, volunteers and dozens of onlookers who crammed against a picket fence.
Charles’ trip to Washington was his first U.S. visit since 2007 and marked the resumption of his public duties after the wedding Friday of his eldest son, Prince William, to Kate Middleton.
He is scheduled to meet with President Barack Obama today.
Earlier Tuesday, he visited the Supreme Court and met with Justices Stephen Breyer, Antonin Scalia and Sonia Sotomayor before attending a reception for past Marshall scholars — Americans who received financial assistance to pursue college degrees in Great Britain.
