SAN ANTONIO—Two people have been charged with murder in the 1997 killing of a former jockey whose stabbed and shot body was found in his vehicle near San Antonio.
Bexar (bayr) County investigators say the motive in the slaying of Joseph Quintanilla (keen-tuh-NEE’-yuh) of San Antonio appears to have been money. Sheriff’s Detective Louis Antu says it’s not clear who owed how much.
Raymond Perez of Houston was jailed Wednesday on a murder charge. No attorney was listed for Perez, whose bond was $150,000.
Sammy Naranjo (nuh-RAHN’-ho) was being transferred from Colorado where he’s serving 18 years on a drug conviction.
An affidavit says a witness came forward in 2001 to say Perez told him about the slaying, but the tip wasn’t investigated. Cold case officers recently came upon the information.
