CRAIG, Colo.—A hunter who wildlife officials say harvested trophy parts of three mule deer bucks and two pronghorn bucks while abandoning much of the meat has been fined $4,000.
The Colorado Division of Wildilfe announced Thursday that a Moffat County District Court judge also sentenced 63-year-old Floyd Gutierrez of Craig to four years of supervised probation, which could be reduced to one year if he complies with court requirements.
He must donate $5,000 to a program that offers rewards to help catch poachers. He also could lose his hunting privileges permanently pending a review by a Division of Wildlife hearing examiner.
Gutierrez had pleaded no contest to willful destruction of wildlife.
The case was investigated after a wildlife official received a tip in November 2008.
