A 10-year-old boy was arrested after shooting several of his classmates with a BB gun.
Police were called to Stein Elementary School in Lakewood at 11:40 this morning when the fourth grader shot at least six of his classmates while the teacher was looking away, said Lakewood police spokesman Steve Davis.
None of the children were hurt, and police noted only one student had a small red lump where she had been hit with a BB.
When police got to the school, the boy was sitting in the office and several of his family members had arrived. He was not handcuffed and a relative drove him to the police station.
He was booked on assault and dangerous missile charges. The charges are municipal, and the boy and his parents will appear in court in June.
Jefferson County School District spokeswoman Lynn Setzer said that the parents of all the children who were hit came to the school to check on their kids. All but one of the students stayed in school for the rest of the day.
Setzer said that bringing a weapon to school and firing it is an automatic expulsion.
