DENVER—Senate Republicans launched a filibuster on Tuesday after Democratic Senate leaders said they were reluctant to take up a House congressional redistricting plan.
Democratic Senate Majority Leader John Morse said there was no point debating a House map if there are no ongoing negotiations over a new map.
Republican Minority Leader Mike Kopp said if the House bill isn’t given a hearing, the filibuster will continue and he demanded every bill be read at length.
That will dramatically slow down work as lawmakers race to pass bills before the session ends Wednesday.
The filibuster began after the Senate passed a token plan to draw new congressional districts that has no chance of passage before the Legislature adjourns.
