Denver Public Schools is finalizing its placement of new leaders at multiple schools, including six high schools.

Last week, Ed Salem, who was selected to replace Antonio Esquibel at Lincoln High next year, decided not to take the position, after it was announced he would a month ago.

Salem, who has served as principal at North High for three years, cited personal reasons for his decision.

Over the weekend, Lincoln High announced Josefina Petit-Higa, who has been assistant principal at Lincoln for the past five years will now be the principal at the school instead of Salem.

Esquibel who led Lincoln for five years, will take a new position in the district as executive director of turnaround schools.

Denver Public Schoools said they would still consider Salem for other positions, but a replacement for him at North High was already selected.

In another change, Nicole Veltzè who served as principal of Skinner Middle School for five years will be leading North High next fall.

DPS is still looking for an interim replacement for the principal at West High School. The new leader will be an interim leader while the district figures out how it will restructure the school.
