
A Longmont liquor store owner accused of attacking his wife with a hammer pleaded guilty Tuesday morning to domestic violence-related felony menacing.
Hoan “John” Bui faced a trial on charges of second- and third-degree assault, felony menacing, obstruction of telephone service and a violent crime sentence enhancer. A second-degree attempted murder charge had been dismissed after a preliminary hearing.
Under the deal, he will receive probation at his July 1 sentencing hearing.
According to police reports and pretrial testimony, Kim Bui called police for help on July 27 and reported that her husband was trying to kill her with a hammer at Westview Liquors at 17th Avenue and Main Street. When officers arrived, Hoan Bui was gone and Kim Bui was treated for injuries. He was later arrested in Arapahoe County, where the couple live.
