Unrelenting rain in the Denver area forced CHSAA to postpone the first day of the state tournament for Class 5A girls tennis Thursday.

First-round matches were scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at the Gates Tennis Center, with playbacks and second-round matches beginning as courts opened up. Instead, the first round will begin at 9 a.m. today at the tennis center. Two other sites — deKoevend Park in Centennial and City Park in Denver — will be used to help move play along.

All singles matches and No. 1 doubles matches will be played at Gates. No. 2 doubles will take place at deKoevend Park, and No. 3 doubles and No. 4 doubles at City Park.

Semifinals, originally scheduled for 9 a.m. today, will begin at 4 p.m. at Gates.

Championship matches Saturday will start at 9:30 a.m., a half-hour later than originally scheduled. Those matches will be played at Gates.

Today’s forecast in the Denver area is for sunshine and temperatures in the mid-60s. Saturday’s high is expected to be in the upper 50s, with some clouds and a slight chance of rain.
