Ben Portie of Westminster turned his 3-under-par 69 at The Heritage at Westmoor into medalist honors in one of two U.S. Open local qualifying tournaments Monday on the Front Range.

Barry Milstead (70) of Centennial was the runner-up and one of the six golfers in the tournament at The Heritage to advance to sectional qualifying. Also advancing were Scott Petersen (71) of Parker, Luke Symons (71) of Aurora, Kane Webber (72) of Denver and part-time Avon resident Blanton Tessin (72).

Webber and Tessin survived a six-man playoff for the final two slots.

At Collindale Golf Club in Fort Collins, Ryan Yip of Calgary, Alberta, was the medalist with a 6-under-par 65.

Also advancing at Collindale to sectional qualifying were reigning Colorado Golf Association stroke play champion Wyndham Clark (68) of Greenwood Village, Drew Stoltz (68) of Scottsdale, Ariz., Matt Rutledge (68) of Fort Collins and Tyler Bishop (69) of Longmont.

Bishop won a three-man playoff for the final slot. Clark, 17, was the only amateur to advance from the two tournaments.

The U.S. Open will be played June 16-19 at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md.
