FOUNTAIN — A man and a toddler were found dead Monday night at a home after a six-hour standoff. Police said they are investigating the deaths at the Fountain house as a murder-suicide.
Police and El Paso County sheriff’s deputies entered the home after failing to contact the man.
Neighbors say the standoff began after a woman ran from the home around 2:30 p.m. Monday. She had been shot and collapsed near a car outside the home, said neighbor Suzette Washington.
City spokesman Jay-Michael Baker said the woman works for the Sheriff’s Office. He did not know the relationship between the man and woman, and no names were released.
Fountain police had surrounded the residence, and five neighboring homes were evacuated.
A police car was outside the home earlier Monday, Washington said, and the man inside and an officer exchanged words. She said she saw the man in the window, holding a gun.
