Party made a happy racket

“Breaking the Barriers: An Exhibition in Courage” offers a comprehensive look at African-Americans in tennis, from the 1800s to Arthur Ashe’s historic 1975 win at Wimbledon. It’s part of the permanent collection at the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum in Newport, R.I., and travels to the U.S. Open held every summer in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. The exhibit has made its first trip to Colorado, on view at the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library, 2401 Welton St., through the end of June. USTA Colorado hosted a red-carpet grand opening. See additional pictures from these events at .

Major award presented in Denver

At a dinner hosted by CBS sportscaster Greg Gumbel and held at the Four Seasons Hotel Denver, researchers Patricia Jacobs and David C. Page were given the $250,000 March of Dimes Prize in Developmental Biology. Their pioneering work with the X and Y chromosomes has led to significant progress in the prevention and treatments for some of the most serious birth defects and human diseases.
