NEW YORK — Mets third baseman David Wright has a stress fracture in his lower back that is expected to keep him out a couple of weeks, though the team is awaiting a second opinion before deciding whether to put him on the disabled list.

Wright is hitting just .226 with six homers and 18 RBIs.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Monday it is a nonsurgical course of treatment that could take at least 10 days.

Meanwhile, pitching prospect Jenrry Mejia had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow and starting pitcher Chris Young had surgery to repair a tear of the anterior capsule of his right shoulder.

La Russa back with Cardinals

ST. LOUIS — Manager Tony La Russa rejoined the Cardinals after missing six games to be treated for shingles, and quickly switched around the lineup card against the Phillies.

La Russa shifted three-time NL MVP Albert Pujols from first base to third base, Lance Berkman from right field to first base, Allen Craig from third base to right field and Nick Punto from third base to second base.

Pujols started at third base for the first time since Sept. 23, 2002.
