On the last weekend this spring that Boulder’s beloved tulips were expected to all be in full bloom and on display from one end of the Pearl Street Mall to the other, vandals pulled flowers, broke stems and trampled beds covering a block-and-a-half of the pedestrian walkway.
Two men were ticketed on suspicion of damaging public property, and city crews spent Saturday morning cleaning up the floral devastation. Pearl Street’s gardeners this week are finishing the job, digging up tulips that have either been destroyed or have reached the end of their bloom cycle.
According to police, Christian Eduardo Guitierrez and Christopher James Bagnall II, both 26 and of Boulder, were seen trampling and pulling up the Pearl Street blooms early Saturday in the 1300 block of the mall.
