Metro area residents can get a self-guided tour today of the recent renovations to the Denver Central Library.

The renovations were revealed this morning during a ceremony with Denver Mayor Guillermo (Bill) V. Vidal at the library at 10 W. 14th Ave. Pkwy.

Vidal was joined by Councilwoman Jeanne Robb, City Librarian Shirley Amore and Library Commission President Karen Rokala.

Jonny 5 of the Flobots also performed at the ceremony.

Vidal and Robb made remarks about the renovations, which were funded by the Better Denver Bond Program.

They included interior building repairs, upgrades to the alarm and public address systems, several automated library self-checkout stations and the introduction of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to library materials, the library said in a news release.

The third-floor reference area was redesigned, and there is a new fourth-floor technology center.

Also, funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act paid for the addition of public access computers and increased job search assistance.
