Durango High School will be closed today and Wednesday after hay was found spread throughout the building’s hallways and common areas.
The hay, discovered Monday morning, may have been part of a senior prank, according to the school’s website.
The hay contained mold spores that contaminated the air quality in the school and forced an evacuation, the school said.
The school will reopen on Thursday pending results of an air test.
Families will receive an Alert Now message on Wednesday informing them whether students can return to classes.
The missed days may need to be made up at the end of the school year.
As a result of the evacuation, the Girls Lacrosse Banquet was rescheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel, and choir, band and orchestra concerts were postponed. Special Olympics are also postponed until further notice.
