Showers tonight are expected to turn to fog by morning, but Denver still has a 30 percent chance of more rain Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

In the mountains, meanwhile, a winter storm warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Friday for much of western Colorado with potential for 8 more inches of show, bringing the storm’s total to 15 inches in some areas before the Pacific storm moves out Saturday.

Higher amounts are still possible, forecasters said tonight.

Highs in Denver Saturday and Sunday are expected to warm to nearly 70 degrees with partly sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service.

Another storm system is waiting in the wings, however, and moisture is back in the local forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

The rainy May has more than made up for a dry winter and spring.

Since Jan. 1, the city has received 6.34 inches of rain as of 5:30 p.m. today. The average for this time of year is 5.72 inches.

Denver has received 3.89 inches this month. May has averaged 1.51 inches in Denver over the past 30 years.

Last year, the city received only 0.8 inch of precipitation in May.

The high country has been socked hard by snow all year. All of northern Colorado is at or above 200 percent of average snowpack for this time of year, which will fill reservoirs and supply down river states in the months to come.

The heavy snow also could result in flooding, however, when it melts.
