Opera Colorado will present its first-ever new work in May 2013 – the professional world premiere of Lori Laitman’s 2008 operatic adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s landmark 19th-century novel, “The Scarlet Letter.”
The company also announced today that esteemed soprano Elizabeth Futral has agreed to take the central role of Hester Prynne, and up-and-coming tenor James Valenti will portray her secret lover, Arthur Dimmesdale.
“The Scarlet Letter” was commissioned by the University of Central Arkansas and first presented there in a student-faculty production.
