A 55-year-old Longmont man was hospitalized Wednesday night after he was struck by a marked Longmont police car as he crossed Main Street at 23rd Avenue, according to police.

His injuries are not considered life threatening, according to the Longmont police, who are assisting the Colorado State Patrol with the investigation.

The man was walking home from King Soopers at 8:47 p.m. when he was struck, according to initial reports. Police report he was walking east “in the vicinity of the crosswalk” on the south side of the intersection at the time. The officer assisted the man until paramedics and firefighters arrived.

“The conditions were dark with rain at the time of the collision,” according to a Longmont police press release. “The investigation is still in the preliminary stages. Speed and impaired driving were not factors in this collision.”

Police did not release the name of either the officer involved or the resident and noted that additional information was not expected to be made public until after 3 p.m. today.
