An Englewood businessman and a passenger in his single-engine plane died in a crash in rugged, snow-covered terrain in southeastern Wyoming.
Gilmer Mickey, 55, of Englewood was the pilot of the 1973 Bellanca 17. Its wreckage was found Thursday in Sweetwater County in the South Pass area, according to the Wyoming Civil Air Patrol.
Bob Albert, 55, of Fort Collins, a water quality consultant working for Mickey’s company, also was killed in the crash.
The plane was en route to Fort Collins when it left Ralph Wenz Field in Pinedale about 10 a.m. Wednesday and dropped off radar.
Steven Shute of Glenwood Springs, who co-owns Pinedale Natural Gas with Mickey, said his partner is a native of Plainview, Texas. Both were petroleum engineers working in Texas until about 25 years ago, when they decided to buy their own company.
“He was a good partner and a good man,” Shute said of Mickey.
