Bo, a Belgian malinois with the Frederick Police Department, is recovering from surgery April 20 to repair a partially torn ligament in his hind leg.
In addition to water-treadmill therapy, Bo also stretches and receives laser therapy twice a week with the Canine Rehabilitation and Conditioning Group at Aspen Meadow Veterinary Hospital.
If Bo gets the all-clear from the doctor, Frederick Officer Andrew Fairbanks said, he will slowly start working back into his normal training.
During a more than seven-year career with Frederick police, Bo has been deployed more than 500 times; has helped to apprehend 12 suspects, seize $30,000 in drug money and more than 1,000 pounds of narcotics; and discovered a handgun used in a shooting.
