FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Authorities say a climber was injured when she was struck by a rock and fell about 20 feet in Poudre (POO’-dur) Canyon northwest of Fort Collins.
The Larimer County Sheriff’s Department says the climber was taken to Poudre Valley Hospital early Monday after an hours-long rescue hampered by rugged terrain and darkness.
The sheriff’s department says the climber is a 31-year-old woman from Fort Collins. Her name hasn’t been released.
Authorities say she suffered a broken ankle, a crush injury to her hand and head lacerations. She was wearing a helmet.
The sheriff’s department says the woman’s climbing companion alerted deputies about the accident at about 6 p.m. Sunday.
Larimer County Emergency Services, Larimer County Search and Rescue, Poudre Canyon Fire Protection District and Poudre Valley Ambulance participated in the rescue.
