Officials are looking for a dog that attacked and killed 27 fowl in Niwot on Saturday.

At 12:30 p.m., an 80-pound German shepherd was reported to be attacking ducks, geese and turkeys after it jumped into a pen at the Black Cat Farm next to to the Monarch Park ball fields in Niwot, according to a news release from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.

There were at least 200 people at the ball parks when the attacks started. Spectators chaseed the dog away by throwing rocks at it.

The dog killed 20 ducks, six geese, one turkey and injured several more birds – many of which are not expected to survive. Black Cat Farms valued the loss at more than $1,000.

The animal control unit of the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the dog and its owner.

The dog was last seen running through the Boulder County open space property toward the 6500 block of 79th Street.

The owner of the dog could face a charge of owning a dangerous dog, a misdemeanor.
