COMMERCE CITY, Colo.—Madison Meyers scored in the 17th minute as Valor Christian won its first Class 4A state girls soccer championship with a 1-0 victory over Wheat Ridge at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

Meyers beat a Wheat Ridge defender Wednesday evening and spun past goalie Hannah Van Wetter for an easy, first-half tap in.

Second-seeded Valor Christian (17-1-1), which lost the last two title games to Wheat Ridge, simply out-hustled its Jefferson County League rival.

Wheat Ridge (16-2-2), the No. 4 seed, never managed to establish an offensive rhythm.

Valor Christian had 10 shots, and keeper Kailey Norman had 4 saves for the Highlands Ranch school.
