A man is in custody this morning after leading troopers on a chase through Denver that ended with a crash and a car fire.
Colorado State Patrol Trooper Nate Reid said it all started at 1:41 a.m. at the corner of West Mexico Avenue and South Xavier Street.
Troopers spotted a black Subaru that they said had a a felony warrant linked to it. They tried to stop the car, but Reid said the driver took off, leading troopers on a chase through light traffic at speeds of 40 to 80 mph.
According to Reid, the chase came to an end three minutes later at South Federal Boulevard and West Louisiana Avenue, when the Subaru crashed into a white Oldsmobile.
That’s when the black Subaru caught fire.
Reid said both drivers were able to get out of their vehicles and both were transported to local hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately known.
Troopers later confirmed the driver of the Subaru did have a felony warrant and he was taken into custody. His name was not immediately released.
The northbound lanes of Federal Boulevard were closed temporarily due to the crash and car fire.
