A 19-year-old man on trial for first-degree murder claimed he was protecting his ailing father when he shot a mechanic outside a Monument auto shop seven times.
Testimony began today in the trial of Logan McClelland, of Como, who is accused of killing Bradley Blehm on April 9, 2010, outside the Big O Tires where Blehm worked.
In his opening statement, prosecutor Jeffrey Albright told jurors the shooting followed a quarrel between the 50-year-old victim and the defendant’s father, Tom McClelland, who reported Blehm to his boss for swearing in front of customers.
While the two argued, Logan McClelland grabbed his father’s .45-caliber pistol from the back seat, got out of the truck and opened fire without warning, Albright said.
