MOFFAT, Colo.—Authorities say a Colorado man who collected an old clothes dryer as scrap metal found a bag inside containing nearly 150 blasting caps along with detonator cord and fuse.

The Alamosa Valley Courier reports the Moffat resident called the Saguache (suh-WAHCH) County Sheriff’s Department on Monday about the discovery. A bomb squad from Pueblo sent two officers to detonate the items.

Moffat, with about 130 residents, is 70 miles west of Pueblo.

No injuries were reported.

The man says he picked up the dryer from the front porch of a house north of Moffat and had hauled it to his house when he found the items. It wasn’t clear how the items got inside.

Some of the items dated from 1979. Authorities say explosives that old can be unstable.
