DENVER—Xcel Energy Inc. is bringing back summer pricing that charges Colorado customers more for electricity after they’ve used more than 500 kilowatt hours in a month.

From June through September, customers will be charged a base energy rate of 4.6 cents per kilowatt hour for the first 500 kilowatt hours they use in a month. They will be charged 9 cents per kilowatt hour above that.

Xcel says the price structure reflects the higher cost of providing electricity during the summer, when many homes are running air conditioners.

Xcel says the average residential customer uses about 632 kilowatt-hours a month.
