FORT CARSON — Fort Carson is formally welcoming home a small contingent of the 4th Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team after a year-long stay in Afghanistan.

About 75 soldiers were scheduled to return sometime Saturday, but arrival schedules frequently change.

The brigade has about 3,800 members. It often takes weeks or months for an entire brigade to return.

As the 1st Brigade comes home, the 2nd Brigade is shipping out for Afghanistan. That unit’s deployment is also expected to last about a year.

Fort Carson’s 3rd Brigade returned from Iraq this year.
