WINDSOR, Colo.—An autopsy has failed to determine why a doctor died while competing in a weekend triathlon in Windsor.

KMGH-TV reports that safety spotters found 42-year-old Dr. Michael Wiggins of Fort Collins floating face down Saturday in Windsor Lake near an area where competitors emerge from a half-mile swim. He was competing in the Pelican Fest Triathlon.

Stacy Clodfelder of the Weld County Coroner’s Office says Wiggins had been diagnosed with an abnormal heart rhythm. Clodfelder says toxicology and other tests to help determine a cause of death can take up to six weeks.

Wiggins was chairman of the Department of Family Medicine and a board member of Banner Medical Group. A colleague says he practiced family medicine in Loveland for eight years.
