A man from Colorado has been arrested on Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman island for allegedly trying to sell a half-million dollar property that didn’t belong to him, according to police.
The 65-year-old man is being questioned by detectives in connection with suspected fraud offenses.
Officers staged an operation on Tuesday after they received reports someone was trying to sell the apartment without the owner’s permission.
The Colorado man was arrested by the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service’s Financial Crime Unit.
The man, whom police did not identify, had a number of documents that had been forged in the United States that claimed he owned the property, valued at almost $500,000.
A spokeswoman for Cayman police said officers from the Financial Crime Unit have been working with law enforcements agents in the United States for some time.
