A 15-year-old boy is being transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital after he fell during a bike ride up a ridge in Littleton.

John Mullin, fire chief for Littleton Fire Rescue, said the boy was with two friends, also juveniles, who were bike riding on a trail in a subdivision of Littleton.

When the three three got to the top of the first ridge of the foothills — about 800 to 1,000 feet from the roadway, the boy fell from the ridge.

Mullin said it appears the boy only fell about 3 feet, but may have suffered head injuries.

The children used their cellphones to call their parents, who then called the fire rescue department just before 7 p.m.

The rescue lasted more than two hours.

“The rescue crew took head injury precautions,” Mullin said. “And it’s a pretty significant hill.”

Paramedics on the ground assessed him after the rescue and decided to transport him.

Mullin said his condition is unknown at this time, but said he was conscious and talking when he was transported.
